NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's swimming & diving team resumed their winning streak in their second dual meet of the year, coasting past Maine Maritime Academy, 187-95, at Goodyear Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets were virtually unstoppable, claiming victory in 13 of 16 events throughout the day. Five different Norwich swimmers secured multiple individual victories, with
Brandy Lewis (Strafford, Vt.), Abbey Houghton (Dover, N.H.), Maria Piekarczyk (Dudley, Mass.),
Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.), and
Alannah Kelliher (Middleboro, Mass.) all earning wins.
Norwich opened the day with a dominant performance in the 400 medley relay, defeating the Mariners by nearly 12 seconds as
Kylie Farris (Leander, Texas), Houghton, Piekarczyk, and Kelliher pieced together a 4:39.46 effort for Norwich's first victory.
After Maine Maritime took the first individual event in the 1000 freestyle, Lewis handed the Cadets a win in the 200 freestyle, with her and
Kaylin Creel (Huntersville, N.C.) locking down first and second on 2:06.91 and 2:13.53 times, respectively.
The Mariners regained some momentum after winning the 100 backstroke, but six straight victories by the Cadets proved insurmountable. Included in that stretch was Laitala taking the diving board for the 1 meter diving optional, posting a 212.15 score to fly past the competition.
With the exception of the 200 breaststroke, the Cadets topped Maine Maritime in the remaining events, which included Piekarczyk,
Deanna Parot (San Diego, Calif.), Kelliher, and Lewis logging a 4:05.24 first-place time in the 400 freestyle relay to cap off the meet.
