STANDISH, Maine - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team saw their 2023 campaign come to a close in a 21-2 loss to second-seeded Saint Joseph's College in Friday afternoon's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Quarterfinal match-up at the SJC Sports Complex.
A pair of Cadets logged goals, as
Athena Merck (West Yarmouth, Mass.) first got the Cadets on the board late in the first quarter, before
Ellie Moriarty (Stowe, Vt.) added another tally during the second frame.
The Monks struck first and early, rattling off eight-straight goals before Merck's unassisted score. After Moriarty gave the Cadets some life, the Saint Joseph's defense sprung to life to close the contest.
Maeve Noble-Lowe (Freedom, Maine) logged eight saves between the pipes for Norwich, while the Cadets forced 18 Monk turnovers. Five of those were generated from
Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine), who also scooped up four ground balls.
Celine Juneau (Chazy, N.Y.) and
Lindsey Parker (Wells, Maine) paced Norwich in ground balls, corralling five apiece.
The Monks were led offensively by Brianna Paul and Lydia Dexter, with both ripping in five goals each.
Norwich ends the year at 7-10 overall with a 6-7 mark in GNAC play, while the Monks will advance to the GNAC Semifinals to take on third-seeded Simmons University on Wednesday, May 3.
