Women's Lacrosse: Norwich Offense Strikes 15 Times as Cadets Earn Non-Conference Win Over Spartans

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team picked up a non-conference victory Wednesday evening at Dave Wolk Stadium on the campus of Castleton University, 15-5.

Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.) scored three goals and dished out a pair of assists, as Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) scored two times with three assists as both players scored five points. Emma O'Neill (Hamburg, N.Y.) built upon her collegiate debut with three goals in the matchup. Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.), Julia Proto (Orange, Conn.), Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.), Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.), and Grace Morris (Hainesport, N.J.) all put a shot into the back of the net.

In goal Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) made 11 saves with a save percentage of 68.8. Molly Flanagan (Lutz, Fla.) led the team with three caused turnovers, while Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.) forced two, and led the team with six groundballs.

After the Spartans opened the contest with a pair of goals in the opening 5:03 of play, the Cadets scored three straight goals to close out the first quarter holding a 3-2 lead over the Spartans.

Castleton's Maddie Brasser scored off of a free position 55 seconds into the second quarter, but O'Neill received a pass from Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) and put it into the back for the net to retake the lead 1:06 later. The Cadets scored again as Proto scored with 8:02 remaining while the Spartans responded with a goal. Norwich held a 5-4 lead into the halftime break.

Norwich's offense erupted in the second half scoring 10-straight goals, five in the third quarter and five in the fourth, sealing the victory.

Norwich (7-2, 5-1 GNAC) will be back in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday, Apr. 9 at 1 pm. Colby-Sawyer will visit Northfield on Wednesday, Apr. 13 for a 7 pm matchup and Lasell will then visit on the following Saturday, Apr. 16.
