Box Score FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team defeated Dean College on Wednesday afternoon at Grant Field, downing the Bulldogs 21-9 in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and regular season finale.
Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) scored six points, scoring three goals and dished out three assists, while Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) scored five points with a goal and four assists. Emma O'Neill (Hamburg, N.Y.) also added five points scoring four goals with an assist and Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.) and Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.) with four points each on three goals and one assist.
Furchak opened the contest by scoring in the first 21 seconds off a pass from Drown. Etherton then scored her first of the contest 1:09 later putting the Cadets up 2-0 on a free position. Dean evened the score before another free position attempt from Klepper that took the lead at 3-2. The Cadets scored another two goals off the stick's of Furchak and Jasmin Contreras (Glendale, Calif.) taking a 5-2 first quarter lead.
O'Neill kicked off the second quarter, scoring in the opening 24 seconds of play, before Jazzy Sztyler-Magee struck for Dean. O'Neill then struck again to make the contest 7-4, before the Bulldogs scored two-straight, shrinking the Cadet lead to two. Norwich then erupted for six-straight goals, between the end of the first half and beginning of the second taking a 13-5 lead.
Dean scored a pair straight before Sturgeon broke up the run with a free position goal. The Bulldogs responded before the Cadets went on another four-goal run to take an 18-8 lead early in the fourth quarter. Dean scored once more before the Cadets scored three-straight to close out the contest.
Norwich (12-4, 10-3 GNAC) will host Emmanuel in a GNAC Quarterfinal contest at a time and date to be determined at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
