Box Score

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team picked up a victory on the road in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup Wednesday evening at Timothy J. Leary Field at Elms, 14-4.

Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) scored four goals in the victory, while Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.) struck three times while dishing out an assist. Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.) and Emma O'Neill (Hamburg, N.Y.) each scored a pair of goals, while Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine), Maggie Doyle (Melrose, Mass.), and Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Cadets.

After giving up an early goal in the opening 49 seconds of play, Norwich rattled off three straight goals, starting with Sturgeon finding Etherton in space for a goal. After goals by O'Neill and Furchak gave Norwich a 3-1 lead, but Elms scored with 6:20 remaining cutting the lead down to one at the end of the opening frame.

After both teams were scoreless over 12:29 of play, the Blazers Greta Frankwicz evened the score at 3-3.  Furchak then scored off of a pass from Drown with 1:56 remaining in the first half, taking a 4-3 Norwich lead into the half.

Frankwicz scored again in the opening 1:55 but the Cadets' offense erupted for five goals, beginning with a goal from Sturgeon 26 seconds after Frankwicz's goal.

While up 9-4 entering the fourth quarter, the Cadets continued their run while a player down, when Etherton connected on a pass to Furchak, which Furchak then put into the back of the net.  The Cadets offense continued to roll in the fourth quarter, scoring four more goals before the end of the contest.

Norwich (10-4, 8-3 GNAC) will face Emmanuel in a key GNAC matchup on Saturday, Apr. 23 as they continue to battle for the No. 4 seed in the GNAC Tournament and a home contest in the quarterfinals.  Norwich will then round out the regular season at Dean on Wednesday, Apr. 27.
