Box Score STANDISH, Maine. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team fell in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Monday afternoon against undefeated Saint Joseph's (Maine), 18-6, at the Saint Joseph's College Athletic Complex.
Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) made 16 saves in the cage as the Cadets combined for 15 caused turnovers, including three turnovers forced by Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.). Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.) led all field players with three ground balls, as Bishop-Manning picked up a team-high five ground balls.
Emma O'Neill (Hamburg, N.Y.) led the Cadets with two goals on the day, while Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.) , Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.), Sturgeon, and Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Norwich. Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) dished out an assist on the day.
The Monks' offense started the game quickly, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead in the opening 9:15 of play. Norwich then struck while a player down as Drown found Furchak for the goal with 2:33 remaining in the first quarter.
The Monks again had a five goal stretch to begin the second quarter, before Etherton was able to take advantage of the extra attacker opportunity. Saint Joseph's (Maine) responded with back to back goals by Bridget Collins and Lydia Dexter, but Emma O'Neill brought the Cadets to within nine with a goal 1:04 before the halftime break.
The Cadets were able to add a goal in the third and a pair of goals in the fourth, as the Monks were able to control play.
Norwich (9-4, 7-3 GNAC) will be the visiting team in their final three contests of the regular season. They will travel to Elms on Wednesday, Apr. 20 for a 7 pm matchup with the Blazers, before battling Emmanuel on Saturday, Apr. 23 at 3:30 pm. The Cadets will then close out the regular season on Wednesday, Apr. 27 at Dean.
