PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a strong Plattsburgh State team, falling 17-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Plattsburgh.

Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.) scored three of the five goals for the Cadets, recording her second hat trick of the season in as many games. Jasmin Contreras (Glendale, Calif.) and Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) each added a goal in the contest while Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.) and Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) each dished out assists in the loss.

After a pair of goals by the Cardinals opened things up, Contreras was on the receiving end of a pass by Furchak, and Contreras was able to convert on her shot attempt with 8:07 remaining in the opening quarter.

Norwich was held off the scoreboard the rest of the first half, trailing 8-1 at the halftime break.

Plattsburgh State continued to score early on in the second half before Drown, was able to break up the Cardinal run. The Cardinals scored four straight before Sturgeon earned a free position attempt, and was able to score off the attempt for a goal.

In the fourth quarter of play the Cadets were able to score two more times, with Sturgeon being the goal scorer and Mustone assisting on the second goal of the quarter for the Cadets with 6:11 on the clock.

Norwich (1-1, 0-0 GNAC) will begin their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) slate on Saturday, Mar. 12 at 3 pm against the Monks of Saint Joseph's College. Norwich will then host Regis on Wednesday, Mar. 16 for a 7 pm tilt against the Pride.
