Box Score PAXTON, Mass. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team picked up their first road victory of the season and fourth win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play after a 14-4 win at Anna Maria over the AMCATS Wednesday.
Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) had five points, scoring two goals and dishing out assists on three others. Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.) scored three goals on four shots in the contest and Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.) added another three goals in the matchup, Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) had three goals and an assist. Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.) had a pair of goals and Hailey Lafaille (Barre, Vt.) added another goal to round out the scoring.
Defensively for the Cadets Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) saved a career-high 12 shots in net, while picking up three ground balls and forcing a pair of turnovers. Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.) had a game-high seven ground balls for Norwich while forcing three turnovers.
Norwich struck first with Mustone finding the back of the net 1:22 into the first quarter. The AMCATS then scored three straight goals in just under two minutes to take an early 3-1 lead.
With 8:02 remaining Etherton got onto the scoresheet with her first goal of the contest that she followed up with her second 37 seconds later. Norwich scored another three goals with Sturgeon, Drown, and Furchak each putting a shot into the back of the net, going into the second frame up 6-3.
Norwich added another four goals in the second quarter, taking a 10-3 lead into the halftime break.
The Cadets after a pair of goals in the third quarter, Sturgeon gave the Cadets a 10-goal lead 2:05 into the final frame. Anna Maria scored a goal to cut the lead down to nine before Drown scored off of an assist by Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.).
Norwich (5-2, 4-1 GNAC) will host St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday, Apr. 2 at 2 pm at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium. Norwich will then play at Castleton on Wednesday, Apr. 6 at 7 pm.
