Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team was able to stay undefeated on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium, improving their record at home to 4-0, with a 18-5 win over Albertus Magnus on Saturday.
Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.) and Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) each had five points in the contest, while Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.) added three goals, while Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) added three goals and an assist. The Cadets had nine players find the back of the net.
Defensively, Norwich was led by Etherton who forced two turnovers while picking up seven ground balls. Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) had six saves in the contest on the nine shots that she faced, picking up her third win of the season.
Furchak was the first to strike on either side of the contest scoring back to back goals in 35 seconds. The Falcons came back with 10:21 remaining in the opening quarter, scoring while a player down. Etherton then was on the receiving end of a pass from Drown that gave the Cadets a 3-1 lead while holding the player advantage.
After another Albertus goal in the first quarter, Norwich scored three straight goals to take 6-2 lead into the second frame.
Katherine Raposo scored her second goal of the game, cutting the Cadet lead to three. After a goal by Sturgeon, the Cadets went on a run, scoring five goals in the first half and adding another five straight goals for a 10-goal swing in favor of Norwich.
Norwich added three more goals in the fourth quarter as they came out with the win.
Norwich (4-2, 3-1 GNAC) will travel to Anna Maria on Wednesday, Mar. 30 for a 6 pm tilt with their GNAC opponent. Norwich will then be visited by St. Joseph (Conn.) for a 2 pm tilt with the Blue Jays at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium on Saturday, Apr. 2.
