Women's Lacrosse: Three Cadets Score Hat-Tricks as Norwich Takes Down Conference Foe Rivier

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team saw their offense come alive Tuesday evening at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Rivier, downing the Raiders 17-5 in conference play.

Four Cadets had four points in the contest, with Allison Sturgeon (Monticello, Ind.) registering four goals in the matchup, while Valentina Drown (Acton, Maine) and Michaila Furchak (Nyack, N.Y.) each scored three goals while dishing out an assist. Maddie Etherton (Johnstown, N.Y.) also reached three points on the score sheet scoring two goals with an assist.

Defensively Etherton and Jasmin Contreras (Glendale, Calif.) each forced three turnovers, with Contreras picking up a team high five ground balls. In net Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) picked up her second win of the season.

The Cadets took the lead 3:55 into the game, when Sturgeon scored. Rivier responded with a goal by Caitlin Newell to knot things up at 1-1. After a few minutes of play Etherton scored with 3:38 remaining and scoring three goals in 57 seconds taking a 4-1 advantage.  Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.) then scored the first of her two goals of the matchup with 1:09 on the clock.

Leading 7-3 with 6:48 remaining in the first half, Norwich's Maggie Doyle (Melrose, Mass.) was on the receiving end of a pass from Hailey Lafaille (Barre, Vt.) that she then was able to direct into the back of the net. Fuchak scored with the extra player and Sturgeon scored another pair of goals to take a 10-3 advantage into the halftime break.

Mustone kicked things off 43 seconds into the second half with a goal and Etherton and Sturgeon followed shortly after to take a 10-goal advantage. Newell would score for the Raiders, but Doyle got one past the Rivier goalkeeper to regain the 10-goal lead.

Norwich (3-2, 2-1 GNAC) will play NVU-Lyndon on Thursday, Mar. 24 at 4 pm before facing Albertus Magnus on Saturday, Mar. 26, both contests will be played at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
