Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Norwich University women's lacrosse wrapped up the regular season with an 18-8 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss to Emmanuel College on Wednesday night at Roberto Clemente Field.

Norwich (2-5, 0-4 GNAC) was sluggish out of the gates as it endured a 5-0 run by Emmanuel (7-0, 4-0 GNAC) to start the game with senior Emily Saef scoring three of her team-leading four goals in the first 16 and a half minutes of the game.

The Cadets got two back from senior Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) and junior Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.) to make it 5-2. Kathryn Preul (Scottsdale, Ariz.) found Poljacik for her second of the game with 7:19 remaining in the half to make it 6-3, but Emmanuel closed the half with three-consecutive goals to put EC ahead 9-3 at halftime.

Senior Elizabeth Fortier scored back-to-back goals to open the second half to push the Emmanuel lead to 11-3 before Preul scored her 14th goal of the season off of a feed from Schromm to make it 11-4.

Poljacik and Schromm accounted for three-straight Norwich goals late in the second stanza to move the Cadets to within a 16-8 deficit before the Saints got the final two goals of the night including a man-down score by sophomore Megan Steele to wrap up the scoring at 18-8.

Schromm paced the Cadets with five points on four goals and one assist while Poljacik tied her career-best with her third career hat trick and led the team with four draw controls. Preul added an assist to her goal and five caused turnovers which top the GNAC leaderboard (20) over teammate Poljacik who had four on the night to give her 16 on the season. Poljacik also picked up four groundballs to finish the regular season ranked second in the GNAC with 27.

EC junior goalie Emma Crowley earned the win, making six saves in goal while freshman Maeve Noble-Lowe (Freedom, Maine) suffered the loss stopping seven shots to drop to 0-3 on the season.

Both teams will be back in action when GNAC tournament play begins Saturday. Norwich has earned the seventh seed in the tournament and will head to Lasell to face the second-seeded Lasers with game time slated for 4 p.m.
