PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team had their playoff push ended on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to the number one overall seeded Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University by a 25-5 final score. 

The two-time defending conference champion Wildcats seemed completely uninterested in allowing any chance of an upset at the hands of the eighth-seeded Cadets. Two quick goals made it 2-0 JWU before Kate Winstanley (Lansdale, Pa.) converted a free-position shot to make it 2-1. That was as close as the Cadets would get to the lead, as JWU was simply dominant on their way to the 25-5 victory. 

The loss brings an end to the 2019 campaign for Norwich women's lacrosse, but the season doesn't end without some significant highlights. Brynn Mendes (Centerville, Mass.) shattered the single-game draw controls record on April 22nd against NVU-Lyndon, and her 65 draw controls this year are the third most in program history and already the seventh most in a career in Norwich history. Winstanley also broke the single-game saves record with 27 saves against Albertus Magnus on April 17th, and still managed to lead the team with 39 goals this year.

Today marks the end of the line for seniors Kayleigh O'Rourke (Lyndhurst, N.J.) and Ariana Lacombe (Groton, Mass.). In just one season with the Cadets, O'Rourke appeared in 14 games making seven starts and collecting three goals, 13 ground balls, and five caused turnovers. Lacombe stands alone in third place all-time in games played and started, and her 42 career caused turnovers rank her eighth all-time. 

Norwich wraps up the season with a 7-10 overall record and a 4-7 mark within the conference.
