Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team opened up their season on Monday afternoon against the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College, dropping the non-conference game at Sabine Field by a 17-11 final score.
Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) got the scoring going barely a minute into the game when she snuck one in to give Norwich an early 1-0 advantage. The two teams alternated goals for the rest of the first half before Olivia Bloom (Annapolis, Md.) found the back of the net with under a minute to go to give Norwich the 8-7 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Chargers came out firing and scored three straight goals in the first two minutes of action in what would be a precursor for the tone of the entire second half. Norwich was outscored 10-3 in the half, as Colby-Sawyer pulled away with the 17-11 victory.
Albretsen, Bloom, and Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) all started their season's off with three goals apiece. Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist on the day, while Kathryn Preul (Scottsdale, Ariz.) picked up her first career collegiate goal.
Norwich is back in action a week from today on March 12th when they travel to take on Thomas (Me.) College on the road at 3:00 PM.
