Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team had a first-half lead slowly evaporate under the attack of the Pride of Regis College on Tuesday night, dropping the Great Northeast Athletic Conference game by a narrow 9-8 final score.
The Cadets came out on fire in the first ten minutes of game time, opening up a quick 5-1 lead over the visiting Pride. Regis got a late goal from Kerri Anselmo to close out the first half and narrow the Norwich halftime lead to a slim 5-3 margin.
Regis turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, slowing the Cadet attack with a tweaked defensive gameplan. The Pride took the lead with 12:19 to go off of a Malorie Kiehl unassisted goal, and Norwich never regained it. Olivia Bloom (Annapolis, Md.) made it interesting with an unassisted goal with 1:21 to go to make it 9-8, but the Cadets couldn't find the equalizer and Regis walked away with the 9-8 victory.
Bloom and Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) each picked up three goals on the night. Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.) and Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) each had a goal of their own, while McGrath and Kathryn Preul (Scottsdale, Ariz.) each notched assists. Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) made seven saves in net to pick up the hard loss.
Norwich gets back to work this Friday when they host the Rivier Raiders for a 1:00 PM GNAC showdown at Sabine Field.
