Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the 2018 season on Tuesday night on the road against Emmanuel College, pulling out the 13-12 victory over the hosting Saints.
The first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game of the season for both squads opened up well for Norwich, as the Cadets put in five straight unanswered goals in the first eight minutes of play to jump out to a quick lead. NU controlled most of the first half action and found themselves leading the Saints 9-4 at halftime.
It was a different story in the second half, with the Saint scoring four straight goals to trim the Norwich lead to a narrow 9-8. The maroon and gold held off the Saints for the rest of the game, as the lead was cut to just one multiple times, including with 42 seconds remaining when Andrea Liddell put in a man-up goal for Emmanuel to tighten the contest. Norwich was able to hold strong, however, and collected the 13-12 victory.
Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) had a huge six-goal night for the Cadets, as well as leading the team with 7 draw controls. Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) and Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) each added two goals of their own, and Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) made six saves to pick up the win between the pipes.
Norwich returns to Sabine Field for their next matchup, this time with the Spartans of Castleton University on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
