NORTHFIELD, Vt. – For the first time all year, the Norwich University wrestling team stayed at home for a match against the Pride of Springfield College on Wednesday night in Andrews Hall.
The Cadets came into the match looking to bounce back from a tough weekend at the Johnson & Wales (R.I.) quad meet a few days prior, and hopefully generate some momentum heading into the latter half of their schedule.
Things went the Pride's way to start, as the Pride took the matchups in the first four duels. Brandon DesFosses (Methuen, Mass.) got the Cadets on the board with a forfeit victory in the 157-pound weight class. That was followed by a few more Pride victories before Satchel Stauffer stepped onto the mat. Stauffer dispatched George Tarwo by fall (4:41) to give Norwich six more points and picked up what would turn out to be Norwich's only victory of the day over the Pride. Springfield finished thing up with another head-to-head victory and wrapped up the 36-12 match win.
The maroon and gold will be back on the mat this Sunday, January 21st, when they travel to the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals. Their next home meet will be on February 7th when they host Castleton University for the Green Mountain Championship.
