Box Score

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Norwich University women's lacrosse team improved to 6-5 on the season with a convincing 19-4 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday.

The Cadets win their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest in five games while the host Blue Jays drop to 3-4 overall and to 0-4 against league opponents. Norwich improves to 11-0 all-time against Saint Joseph since the first-ever meeting on Apr. 19, 2007.

Sophomore Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) scored four goals and added an assist, recording a team-best five points (4-1=5). Freshman Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.) struck for three goals and an assist while senior Chapel Guarnieri (Pepperell, Mass.) cashed in with a hat trick of her own. In total, the Cadets saw nine different players record at least one goal.

Norwich opened up a 6-0 lead with 12:05 left in the first half, scoring three of their season-high eight free position shots during that time frame. Four-straight tallies down the stretch in the opening half created a commanding 13-2 lead for the Cadets.

The Cadets lead swelled to 17-2 only 9:57 into the second half as freshman Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) cashed in with an unassisted tally. Senior Kasey Jacobs (Killingworth, Conn.) propelled Norwich to a game-high lead of 16 goals, potting her fourth career goal off a feed from Brown with 7:19 to go in regulation time.

Norwich outshot the host Blue Jays by a 38-to-8 margin and held advantages in ground balls (19-to-10), draw control wins (18-to-7), successful clears (8-to-6) and free position markers (8-to-1).

Freshman Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) earned the win in goal for the Cadets, making three saves on seven shots. Emily Bourassa made 12 saves for the Blue Jays, drawing the loss after allowing 19 goals on 31 shots faced.
