Women's Lacrosse: Guarnieri Reaches 100 Career Goals vs. Green Mountain

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior Chapel Guarnieri (Pepperell, Mass.) of the Norwich University women's lacrosse team became the fourth student-athlete in team history to reach 100 career goals in Wednesday's 18-2 win over Green Mountain College. The Cadets improve to 3-2 on the year while the visiting Eagles dip to 0-3 on the season.

Guarnieri finished with two goals for the Cadets, finishing her afternoon with 101 goals across 49 career contests. She is only the fourth student-athlete to reach the century mark in career goal scoring and the first since Grace Fitzpatrick '14 did so during the 2014 season. To date, she ranks eighth in program history with 119 career points (101-18=119).

Junior Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) led Norwich with five goals and one assist. Freshman Olivia Bloom (Annapolis, Md.) set a career-high mark with four goals while sophomore Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) registered four points (3-1=4) and picked up a team-leading six ground balls.

The Cadets opened up a 10-0 lead on Green Mountain with 14:39 left in the first half, creating a brief running clock before the Eagles' Sophya Fuccione put back a free-position tally only minutes later. Freshman Jordan Lutz (Hamburg, N.J.) re-established the running clock for Norwich, putting home a goal of a pass from classmate Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) just under two minutes later.

Fuccione struck again for the Eagles with 2:28 left in the first half, but Norwich controlled the remainder of the game and added five goals to create the 18-2 final. Freshman Mary-Kait Mace (Canton, N.Y.) notched two assists and senior Holly Lutz (Hamburg, N.J.) rounded out the point scoring with two goals.

Sophomore Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) earned the win for the Cadets in goal, making one save on three shots. Freshman Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) made four saves down the stretch in relief. Green Mountain's Chelsea Wimble made seven saves on 25 Cadets shots.

The Cadets finished with a 31-to-9 shot advantage and picked up 17 of the game's 25 ground balls. Norwich also reeled in 16 draw controls, limiting the visitors to only seven.

Norwich welcomes Thomas (Me.) College to Northfield on Thursday, Mar. 30 for a 4 p.m. showdown on Sabine Field.
