SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Norwich University wrestling program was downed by the Pride of Springfield College on Wednesday by a 34-12 score. The Cadets fall to 4-5 against head-to-head competition while the Pride, ranked No. 23in all of NCAA Division III wrestling, moves to 4-6 overall.
Junior Jonathan Graziane (Beekmantown, N.Y.) earned his team's first points of the evening, pinning Derek Bohle at 141 after a hard-fought 5:37 of action. Junior Donte Jones (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) would follow with a 9-3 win by decision in the 165-pound weight bracket before senior David Rogers (Marlborough, Mass.) would collect a 11-7 win at 184.
Freshman Joseph Hennessey (Boonville, N.Y.), competing at 197 pounds for the first time in his career, posted a tough 11-1 loss to Springfield's Hunter Ayen. Hennessey had won 12 of his last 13 bouts at 184 pounds and, on the season, was tied for the team lead with 18 overall victories alongside sophomore Jacob Forsman (Voorhees, N.J.).
The Cadets will return to action Sunday, Jan. 22, travelling to Providence, R.I. for the NEWA Headlock for Hunger Duals on the campus of Johnson & Wales University.
