Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) scored five goals with junior Chapel Guarnieri (Pepperell, Mass.) chipping in with a hat trick and an assist, but it was not enough as Johnson & Wales University (JWU) overwhelmed Norwich University, 21-10, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.
JWU improves to 4-1 in the league and 7-5 overall, while Norwich drops to 1-4 in the GNAC and 4-6 on the year.
Senior Larissa Gokey (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) and sophomore Teresa Segreti (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) each recorded a goal for the Cadets.
JWU wasted no time establishing a lead as Lydia Knapp (Glens Falls, N.Y.) scored the first of her four goals just 2:59 into the contest. The Wildcats got a pair of goals from attacker Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, R.I.) during a 4-0 run to start the game.
Norwich got a pair of goals from Guarnieri and Albretsen to pull within 5-2, but the Wildcats went on an 8-1 run to put the game out of reach. Allison Pazienski (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored three of her four goals during that stretch and Pederzani found the back of the net two more times. JWU outscored Norwich, 7-5, in the second half.
Nine different Wildcats scored a goal with five of them scoring at least twice. Pederzani set a new career-high with six goals and added three assists for a season-high nine points. Knapp had four goals and an assist for her fourth-straight game with at least five points. Pazienski recorded her sixth multi-goal game of the season.
Freshman goalie Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) collected 13 saves on 34 shots for the Cadets, while Alexis Harle stopped six of the 16 shots on goal for JWU.
Norwich is back in action on Saturday, April 16 as the Cadets host Albertus Magnus College for the 1 p.m. GNAC contest. Prior to the game Quebec, Gokey and Caroline Manning (Duxbury, Mass.) will be recognized on Senior Day.
