Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Plymouth State University wrapped a 11-2 run around halftime to claim a 15-4 victory over Norwich University in a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup at Sabine Field Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Megan Tingley (Natick, Mass.) led the Panthers with six points on a goal and five assists, while junior Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, Mass.) collected five points on four goals and a pair of helpers. Sophomore Sam Sullivan (Canton, Mass.) posted three points (2g, 1a) as classmate Sophia Guerriero (Essex, Mass.) and freshman Emily Sauls( North Andover, Mass.) added a goal and an assist apiece with five additional Panthers scoring a goal. Junior netminder Meg Brault (South Windsor, Conn.) started in goal and turned away two shots on four attempts in the first half before freshman Emilee Wargo (Madison, Conn.) filled in between the pipes in the second half, commanding the Panthers' defense and allowing just two goals in the stanza.
Freshman Kathryn Albretsen (Caldwell, N.J.) scored three of Norwich's four goals on the night, while junior Chapel Guarnieri (Pepperell, Mass.) chipped in a goal with senior Caroline Manning (Duxbury, Mass.) picking up the assist on the play. Freshman Danielle Boucher (South Burlington, Vt.) made her collegiate debut in the Cadets' goal and finished with two saves on 13 shots before classmate Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) jumped in between the pipes midway through the first half, collecting two saves on six shots.
Both teams got on the board in the first two minutes of the opening draw before the Panthers scored six straight for the 7-1 lead at just under the halfway mark. Albretsen would score her second goal of the game off a free position shot to snap Norwich's scoring drought before Plymouth State's Vonachen fed a pass to junior Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) for the chip in goal before the first half ended with the Panthers leading 11-2 at the break.
The Cadets looked to rebound from the slow start as Albretsen scored unassisted in the first two minutes, but the Panthers responded by scoring four unanswered goals for the 15-3 lead. The Cadets would record their fourth and final goal of the game on the board as Manning connected a pass inside the 8-meter arc to Guarnieri to nail it in the top left corner with 12 seconds remaining for the final score, 15-4.
Norwich (3-3, 0-1 GNAC) is right back in action on Saturday, April 2 when it hosts Rivier University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at 1 p.m. Plymouth State (5-2) hosts UMass Dartmouth in its home opener on Saturday, April 2 for a non-conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
