PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The
Norwich University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its
regular season Saturday afternoon with a 12-8 setback to Plymouth
State University in a non-conference contest at Arold Field.
The Panthers conclude their regular season campaign riding a
six-game winning streak, and they head into postseason play with a
10-4 overall record. The Cadets, who captured the Great
Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament championship last
weekend, will take a 9-7 overall record into the NCAA Tournament
first round on May 12.
Jenn Foley led the Panther attack with a team-high four goals,
while Kalie Juee and Brianna Davis both posted three goals and one
assist apiece. Kerry D'Ambroise chipped in two goals and
Kathryn Rogers added one assist to round out the scoring for
Plymouth State. Judd also dominated play in the middle of the
field with seven draw controls, five ground balls and five caused
turnovers.
Kacey Abbriano paced the Cadets with a team-high four goals,
while Kathleen Hennessy scored two markers. Mollie Fitzpatrick
posted one goal and one assist and Chelsea Martin scored one goal
to cap the scoring for Norwich. Ally Allen picked up a team-high
six ground balls, while Fitzpatrick collected three draw controls.
PSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Judd and Foley, but
Norwich answered with three unanswered markers to take a 3-2
advantage with 13:01 to play in the half. Plymouth State finished
the half by reeling off four unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead
into the intermission.
Norwich scored two of the first three goals of the second half
to pull to within 7-5 at the 22:09 mark, but PSU rattled off four
unanswered tallies to pull ahead 11-5 with 10:16 to play. The
Cadets scored three more goals down the stretch but PSU was able to
hold off the Norwich rally and secure the victory.
Morgan Lemmon made six saves in the victory for Plymouth State,
while Kellie Pickel stopped 13 shots in the loss for Norwich.
Norwich will be back in action Wednesday, May 12, when the
Cadets play their first-ever NCAA Tournament game. NU's first
round matchup will be unveiled on Sunday, May 9, when the NCAA
releases the bracket.
