NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Emily Kuchta scored 18 second
into the third overtime period to lift visiting New England College
to an 11-10 victory over Norwich University in a non-league women's
lacrosse game Monday afternoon at Howard Field.
Norwich's Ally Daniels led all scorers with a game-high nine
goals for the Cadets (7-5), but it was not enough as they lost for
the fourth time in five games. Kacey Abbriano scored the only other
goal for Norwich, while Danielle Del Dotto posted one assist.
NU led 6-3 at halftime, and 9-6 early in the second half. But
New England College (7-7) scored four unanswered goals to take a
10-9 lead with 9:32 to play.
Daniels' ninth tally of the game with just 1:06 to play in
regulation tied the score at 10-10 and the contest moved into
overtime.
Neither team scored in either of the first two overtimes, but it
did not take long for the Pilgrims to tally the game-winner in the
first sudden victory period.
New England College was led by Jodie Dresser, who scored three
goals. Brandi Vittum added two goals and one assist, while Amanda
Naime chipped in two goals.
Kellie Pickel was tremendous in the Norwich goal throughout the
game, making 23 saves on 34 shots. Alexandra DiRico stopped 17 of
27 shots for NEC.
New England College outshot Norwich, 42-33, in the game.
Norwich returns to action on Wednesday, April 22, when the
Cadets host Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)
Tournament semifinal contest at Howard Field. Gametime for the
contest is set for 2 p.m.
