KEENE, N.H. - The Norwich University women's
lacrosse team saw its 2008 season come to an end on Wednesday, as
the Cadets dropped a 22-13 decision to Keene State College in the
first round of the ECAC Tournament.
Norwich (11-5) was led by Ally Daniels, who scored a team-high
five goals and added one assist. Jessica Allmer and Allyson Allen
added two goals apiece, while Kathleen Hennessy, Chelsea Martin,
Kelly Bush and Ashley Haviland each chipped in one goal each.
Hennessy also contributed one assist.
The fifth-seeded Cadets trailed 11-6 at halftime, and they could
not get over the hump against a very fundamentally-sound Keene
State team.
Kellie Pickel (seven saves) and Erin McGaffigan (five saves)
split time in goal for Norwich, with Pickel playing the first half
and McGaffigan playing the second half.
Fourth-seeded Keene State (13-7) was led by Lauren Sawyer, who
scored four goals and added five assists. Jenny Lillis added four
goals for the Owls, who advance to the ECAC Tournament semifinals,
where they will face top-seeded Bridgewater State College on
Saturday.
"I was very happy with the effort that the team put forth
today," said NU head coach Tyler Renaud. "I am so proud of how this
group performed all season long, and I am excited about the future
of our program."
