NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Ally Daniels scored five
goals and added one assist, and Kathleen Hennessy netted five goals
of her own to lead the Norwich University women's lacrosse team
past Lasell, 17-11, in a GNAC Tournament semifinal game on
Wednesday afternoon at Howard Field.
The win vaults the second-seeded Cadets into the GNAC Tournament
championship game, where they will face either top-seeded Emerson
or fourth-seeded St. Joseph's (Maine). The title game will be
played on Saturday, April 26, at the site of the highest remaining
seed.
Jessica Allmer added three goals and one assist for Norwich,
while Chelsea Martin chipped in three goals and Katie Magnus
collected one goal.
Norwich (10-4) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, and the Cadets
held a 7-2 advantage midway through the first half. Lasell battled
back, however, outscoring Norwich 6-2 over the remainder of the
stanza to trim NU's lead to 8-7 at halftime.
Just 37 seconds into the second half, both teams were forced to
leave the field and seek cover due to a passing thunderstorm.
Following the delay, which lasted one hour and 15 minutes, the
Cadets netted the first three goals of the second stanza to open up
an 11-7 lead.
Lasell (7-8) came right back with three unanswered goals of its
own to pull to within 11-10 at the 21:16 mark. That was as close as
the Lasers would get, though, as Norwich took control of the game
and outscored the visitors 7-1 over the final 20 minutes of play to
secure the win.
Christina Canavan led Lasell with a game-high six goals and one
assist. Caitlyn Murphy added five goals for the Lasers.
