NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Nicole Adams scored the
game-winning goal with five seconds remaining in overtime to lift
Castleton State to a 14-13 win Norwich in women's lacrosse action.
The Spartans improve to 6-4 (5-2 NEWLA), while the Cadets drop
to 6-4 (4-3 NEWLA).
NU's Kathleen Hennessy sent the game into an extra session when
she scored with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score
at 12 apiece. Hennessy then scored nine seconds into overtime to
put the Cadets ahead, 13-12. CSC's Stephanie Pearce knotted the
score at 13 with two minutes to play before Adams then won the
game.
Adams and Nicole Bouchard led the Spartans with four goals
apiece. Allison Daniels topped the Cadets with five goals, while
Hennessy finished with four goals.
Castleton State led 7-5 at halftime before Norwich outscored the
Spartans, 7-5, in the second half. NU outshot CSC, 33-24 with
netminder Katie Fraser collecting 12 saves. Castleton State goalies
Francesca Mazzola and Meredith Pope split the first and second
halves and each made 10 saves.
Norwich will close out the regular season on Thursday with
a home game against Westfield State at 3:30 p.m.
