CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Norwich University men's soccer team received a pair of goals from sophomore midfielder Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) en route to a 2-1 non-conference victory over Elms College on Sunday afternoon.
Norwich (7-2-1) opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Nemeye notched his first of the game on an unassisted effort. He repeated that effort less than four minutes later when he tallied his fifth of the season extending the lead to 2-0 which would hold through halftime.
Elms (1-7-2) would cut the lead to 2-1 in the 72nd minute on an unassisted strike from freshman forward Alex Egan (Watertown, Mass.).
The hosts would continue to press looking for the tying goal forcing Norwich's freshman keeper Robert Wagenseller (Poway, Calif.) to make four saves to preserve the one-goal advantage through the final whistle.
Wagenseller, in all, made seven saves to earn the victory in goal for the Cadets. His counterpart, junior keeper Julian Brosi (West Newbury, Mass.), also stopped seven shots while enduring the loss for Elms.
Norwich held the slightest edge in shots outshooting the hosts 16-15. The Cadets also earned an advantage in corners by a 6-3 margin.
The Cadets will return to the pitch next Saturday when the team visits St. Joseph (Conn.) for a 2:30 start.
