MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Junior forward Felix Brassard (St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) and senior goalie Tom Aubrun (Chamonix, France) of the Norwich University men's ice hockey team earned New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) weekly honors on Monday afternoon.
Brassard was named the Player of the Week, while Aubrun earned Goalie of the Week honors for their efforts in helping the No. 2-ranked Cadets beat No. 9 Univ. of New England 4-0 on Saturday night at Kreitzberg Arena.
Brassard scored two power play goals in the first period to help Norwich build a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes, while Aubrun stopped all 25 shots he faced to shut out the high-powered Nor'easter offense in a rematch of last year's NCAA Quarterfinal matchup.
Brassard scored the 19th and 20th goals of his collegiate career just 48 seconds a part to give the Cadets a commanding 3-0 lead after the first period.
Aubrun was superb all night, making all 25 saves, including shutting down UNE's returning leading scorer on a breakaway in the third period to backstop the Cadets to the victory and his eighth career shutout.
Norwich (1-0-0) remained No. 2 in the USCHO.com National Poll released on Monday, trailing defending national champion UW-Stevens Point by two points after the Pointers split their season-opening series against No. 3-ranked St. Norbert College.
The Cadets return to Kreitzberg Arena to host New England College and Southern Maine on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. This upcoming weekend will also be Norwich's annual Bill Cahill Alumni Weekend.
