WESTWOOD, Mass. – Norwich University's junior quarterback Matt Dunn (Rockland, Mass.) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Dunn had a prolific day orchestrating the offense on Saturday as Norwich defeated St. Lawrence 30-24 to earn its first Hoffman Cup victory. He set a Norwich record with 34 completed passes out of 49 attempts for 399 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
In addition to completing nearly 70 percent of his passes, Dunn put the game out of reach late in the fourth quarter by hitting a receiver for a 27-yard gain on a crucial 3rd and 11 and then scrambling to pick up sufficient yardage for a first down on 3rd and 2 which kept the clock running, helping to secure the victory.
As seen by the numbers, new offensive coordinator Marc Kolb is having a great influence on the Cadets' air attack to start the 2019 campaign. Dunn has taken quickly to the new offensive scheme and is averaging 357 yards passing per game and his 706 total passing yards ties him for sixth in the nation in NCAA Division III. Norwich set a pair of offensive records this past weekend with its success in the passing game.
Norwich will seek to make it three-straight wins to open the season this coming Saturday as the Cadets host Coast Guard in the Little Army-Navy Game at 2 p.m. The game will be a part of the University's Bicentennial celebration during Homecoming Weekend.
