Wrestling - Former wrestler, coach inducted into NEWA "Hall"
MIDDLETOWN, Ct. – Dave Hamel ’98 and former head coach Rich Hasenfus were among the Class of 2012 inducted into the New England Wrestling Association’s Hall of Fame Feb. 26.
Hamel’s 98-43 career record is fourth-best in program history in regards to wins. He also holds the single-season mark due to 46 victories in 1997-98. He was a three-time top three finisher at the NEWA Championships including placing second in 1998. Hamel earned All-American honors as a senior, too, by placing third at the national tournament.
Hasenfus guided the Maroon and Gold to 107 dual wins in 13 seasons. He also coached two of the program’s six All-Americans and worked with 14 of the current top 23 individuals in career winning percentage.
