Wrestling - 2011-12 team awards announced

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich University head coach John Hartupee and his staff recognized the 2011-12 Cadets at the program's end-of-the-year banquet April 17.

Sophomore heavyweight Anthony Joyce (Lincoln , R.I.) topped the team awards' list by being named Most Outstanding Wrestler. He highlighted his season by becoming the program's first 20-match winner since 2008-09.

Hartupee and his staff also honored freshman 125-pounder Alex Stewart (Ellicott City, Md.) as Outstanding Freshman; freshman 165-pounder Cody Gladstone (Merrimack, N.H.) as freshman Scholar-Athlete; sophomore 184-pounder Charles Constantino (South Ridding, Va.) as Most Improved; sophomore 157-pounder David Pinto (Milford, Mass.) as the overall Scholar-Athlete award winner; junior 165-pounder Abe Bray (Gold Bar, Wash.) as the Leadership Award winner; and senior 184-pounder Ray Gauthier (York, Maine) and senior heavyweight Matt Ditolla (Nashua, N.H.) as Co-Senior award honorees.

Norwich compiled a 1-10 dual record, and Joyce was one win shy of becoming a place-winner at the 2012 New England Wrestling Association Championships. Freshman 197-pounder Nick Moore (Topeka, Kansas) also added a highlight for the Maroon and Gold by earning runner-up honors at the NEWA Futures tournament.
