NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore Kathryn Albretsen (Cotuit, Mass.) of the Norwich University women's lacrosse team scored three of her team's goals during Sunday's 21-6 loss to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University at Sabine Field.
The Cadets drop to 4-3 overall on the season and to 0-2 against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponents. The Wildcats, fresh off an appearance in the GNAC Championship last season, improve to 2-0 against league foes and to 6-4 overall.
Down by a 3-0 margin in the first half, Albretsen slowed the Wildcats' momentum with her first tally of the game at 23:07. Johnson & Wales countered with eight-straight goals before McGrath put back an unassisted marker with 6:16 to go in the first half.
Guarnieri and McGrath scored back-to-back goals only 53 seconds apart near the start of the second half, but the Wildcats eventually grew its lead to 20-4 with 11:07 left in regulation time. Albretsen helped her team to a strong finish, potting two of the game's final three goals down the stretch.
Freshman Lawson Hayes (Moorestown, N.J.) allowed 21 goals on 28 shots, drawing the loss. The goaltending triumvirate for Johnson & Wales made six saves on 12 shots, headlined by Marianna Consiglio's four stops in the first 30 minutes of play.
