WINTHROP, Mass. – Sophomore Janice Bolton (Stow, Mass.) and junior Meaghan McGrath (Barre, Vt.) were honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Monday. Bolton was selected as the GNAC/Corvias Goalkeeper of the Week while McGrath secured the league's Rookie of the Week honors.
Bolton, McGrath and the Cadets posted two victories this past week and exited play as the NCAA Division III national leader in scoring offense, averaging 22 goals per game. Norwich downed Johnson State by a 23-3 margin before sprinting past Lyndon State, 21-4.
Coming into the game after the first half against Johnson State, Bolton made three saves down the stretch while facing four shots. Against Lyndon State, Bolton earned the start and allowed only one tally on two shots, ending her week with a .667 save percentage. The sophomore backstop has appeared in 18 career games and has registered an 11.57 goals-against average while making 114 saves, the fourth-most in team history.
McGrath began her collegiate career with a flurry of goals, tallying three against Johnson State and six against Lyndon State. Firing only 11 shots and scoring on nine of them, McGrath also reeled in four ground balls and was responsible on defense, causing five turnovers.
Norwich returns to action Thursday, Mar. 23, taking on Colby-Sawyer at 6 p.m. on Sabine Field. This Wednesday's game against Thomas (Me.) on the road has been postponed due to the anticipated inclement weather.
