Women's Lacrosse: Cadets Fall to Lasell 17-5

NEWTON, Mass.—Ashley Slattery and Britney Wuorio combined for 10 goals to lead the Lasell College women's lacrosse team to a 17-5 win against the Cadets of Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action from Grellier Field.

With the loss, the Cadets fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in GNAC play, while the win boosts the Lasers to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in league action.

The Cadets were led offensively by sophomore midfielder Gina Conroy (Amherst, N.H.) with a team-high three goals.  Freshman Chander Camlin (Stamford, Conn.) and junior Grace Fitzpatrick (Falmouth, Maine) both added a goal apiece, while Fitzpatrick led the team in ground balls and draw controls with five apiece.

Wuorio totaled five goals and four assists for the Lasers, who also saw a five goal, three assist effort from teammate Slattery. The Lasers also received offensive contributions from Caitlyn Brecher and Ashley Pechulis, who scored two goals apiece, and single goals from Bridget Doherty, Rebecca Stanton and Bri Daley.

Fitzpatrick opened scoring 3:24 into the game in an unassisted goal to give Norwich the 1-0 advantage.  Wuorio responded 1:35 later to knot the score at one goal apiece.  The two teams traded goals until Lasell took a two-goal lead on back-to-back goals at the 12:20 and 11:25 marks.  Norwich would cut the lead to one just under two minutes later, but Lasell scored three-straight goals to conclude the half with an 8-4 advantage.

Lasell opened the second half with another three-goal run, taking the 11-4 lead before Norwich's Conroy stopped the run with a free position goal with 21:45 left to play.  The goal would mark the final score for the Cadets and Lasell scored six more times to claim the 17-7 victory.

Norwich goaltender Cheyenne Mata-Notel (East Hampton, N.Y.) registered 10 saves in the complete-game effort. Lasell goaltender Sammy Long recorded just five saves as the Lasers posted a 27-10 shots-on-goal advantage.

The Cadets held a 13-11 advantage in draw controls on the afternoon and trailed Lasell 30-14 in ground balls.

Norwich returns to action on Friday, March 29 when it hosts Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference action.
