BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Julie Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) scored two first period goals and sophomore goaltender Joanie Plamondon (Pont-Rogue, Quebec) turned aside all 20 shots she faced to lead the Norwich women's ice hockey team to a 5-0 shutout win over UMass-Boston on Friday night at the Clark Athletic Center in ECAC East action.
Fortier scored just 36 seconds into the game to give the Cadets the only lead they would need and then she added another tally just past the midway point of the period off an assist from Stephanie Invernizzi (Hingham, Mass.) for her sixth and seventh goals of the season.
Invernizzi tallied a goal of her own at the 17:19 mark of the first period off an assist from Amanda Wilks (Winnipeg, Manitoba) to give Norwich a three-goal cushion heading into the first intermission.
Anderson capped the scoring with her nation-leading 10th goal of the season late in the third period off an assist from Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.) to make it 5-0 Norwich.
Plamondon improved to 3-1-0 on the year and picked up her second shutout of the season with the other coming in a 4-0 win over Castleton. Leah Hallett made 32 saves for UMass-Boston and dropped to 1-4-0 on the year.
Norwich (6-1-0 overall, 5-0-0 ECAC East) is now unbeaten in 26 straight ECAC East games and will look to continue its streak on Saturday afternoon when the Cadets take on Saint Anselm at 3 p.m.
