NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women’s ice hockey team will once again wear special-edition pink jerseys for one game this season when the Cadets hold their annual cancer awareness night on Jan. 28 against New England College at Kreitzberg Arena with face off slated for 1 p.m.
This year all monies raised will be donated to the Carol Stephens Scholarship Fund. Stephens had been a member of the NU faculty since 1996 as a mechanical engineering professor before passing away this past July after a battle with cancer.
In lieu of admission, donation jars will be at the entrances of the rink and fans are asked to donate to the Carol Stephens Scholarship Fund.
Fans that attend the women’s game at 1 p.m. will receive free admission to the men’s game against the University of New England at 4 p.m. as long as they do not leave the arena.
In between the two games, Norwich students will partake in a 10-minute broomball game.
Last year’s cancer awareness night raised over $2,000 and set a new Norwich women’s hockey attendance record with 569 fans. That record stood until this year’s season opener when the Cadets raised their 2011 National Championship banner before a crowd of 718.
