NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior forward Julie Fortier of the Norwich women's ice hockey team earned her second straight Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East Player of the Week honor after she scored two goals in both of the Cadets' wins over the weekend.
Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) also scored both game-winning goals in Norwich's 5-0 win over UMass-Boston on Friday and then Saturday's 6-0 win over Saint Anselm.
Fortier scored just 36 seconds into Friday's game at UMass-Boston and then added another goal a little past the midway point of the first period to put the Cadets well on their way to the win. She followed up on Saturday with two of the Cadets' first three goals as well as an assist on Melissa Rundlett's goal that capped the scoring.
Overall, Fortier's four goals and one assist on the week brought her season totals up to nine goals and six assists for 15 points, which ties for second in the nation behind only RIT's Kourtney Kunichika.
The 5-foot-10 power forward has continued her ascent up the Norwich record books this season and now sits just 28 points away from tying Sophie Leclerc's all-time career points record of 163. Fortier currently sits with 71 goals and 64 assists for 135 points. She is one goal away from tying Leclerc's all-time goals record.
Norwich (7-1-0, 6-0-0 ECAC East) returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 3rd when the Cadets try and enact revenge on Salve Regina after the Seahawks caused the lone blemish on an otherwise perfect ECAC East regular season last year for NU.
