RUTLAND, Vt. – The Norwich women's ice hockey team got goals from four different players and sophomore Joanie Plamondon (Pont-Rouge, Quebec) stopped all six shots she faced as the Cadets rolled to a 4-0 win in their Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East opener on Friday night at Spartan Arena.
Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.), Melissa Rundlett (Saco, Maine), Renee Lortie (Cornwall, Ontario) and Tyne Gove (Berwick, Ontario) each scored goals to help the Cadets (2-1-0, 1-0-0 ECAC East) extend their ECAC East regular season winning streak to 22 straight games.
Anderson gave Norwich the only lead it would need at the 8:26 mark of the first period off assists from Sarianne Lynn (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.) for her team-leading third goal of the season.
Gove scored her first career goal near the midway point of the second period and Lortie added her second tally of the season at the 12:55 mark to cap the scoring for the night. DeBus and Anderson picked up assists on Gove's goal, while Brittany Sharman (Ayer's Cliff, Quebec) and Lynn assisted on Lortie's goal.
Norwich outshot Castleton 53-6. Plamondon picked up her third career shutout and improved to 1-1 after turning aside all six shots she faced. Katharyn Dembowski made 49 stops for Castleton to fall to 0-3.
The Cadets return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Henniker, N.H. to take on the New England College Pilgrims. Face off is set for 1 p.m. at Rocket Arena.
