Women's Basketball: Norwich To Host Johnson & Wales In GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's basketball team will open play in the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament championship on Tuesday, Feb. 23, when the second-seeded Cadets host seventh-seeded Johnson & Wales University in a quarterfinal contest at Andrews Hall. Tip-off for the game is slated for 7 p.m.
Norwich won six of its last seven regular season games to earn a share of the conference's regular season title with Emmanuel College. Both Norwich and Emmanuel posted identical 10-2 league records, but the Saints earned the No. 1 seed thanks to their victory over the Cadets last month in Boston, Mass.
The Cadets (18-6) will take on a Johnson & Wales team that they defeated, 67-58, less than two weeks ago down in Providence, R.I.
Norwich will turn to its balanced scoring attack to get past the Wildcats. The Cadets have four players averaging more than 9.6 points per game, led by senior G Ally Daniels (12.7 ppg.).
Johnson & Wales (11-13, 7-5 GNAC) enters Tuesday's contest having lost two of its last three games. JWU dropped a 74-54 decision at Emmanuel on Saturday in the team's regular season finale. The Wildcats are led by Alexia Ramirez, who tops the squad in both scoring (13.9 ppg.) and rebounding (9.0 rpg.).
Should Norwich defeat Johnson & Wales, the Cadets would host the winner of the Albertus Magnus-Suffolk game in a GNAC Tournament semifinal contest on Thursday, Feb. 25.
