Men's XC - Four top 40 finishes guide Cadets
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Propelled by the running of sophomore Frank Fox (Birdsboro, Pa.) and freshman Zach Brown (Scarborough, Me.), Norwich University produced a strong sixth-place team finish at the Western New England Invitational Oct. 15.
Fox placed 26th to lead all Maroon and Gold runners as he circled the course in 28:19.28. Brown was 30th in 28:33.06 Coach Nick Cooper's team ended with four individuals amongst the top 40 with junior Joe Rosenthal (Pasadena, Md.) taking 37th (28:46.61) and freshman Nate Deer (Kodiak, Ak.) placing 40th (28:52.18). Freshman Luke Moeckel (Brandenton, Fla.) was the Cadets' fifth finisher, ending 51st in 29:27.84.
NU's 164 points were just 11 shy of the top five. The host Bears of WNEC and New England College tied for fourth with 153. Worcester Polytechnic Institute was the meet champion with 45 points.
Cooper's squad breaks from competition next weekend to prepare for the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships. The GNAC meet is slated for Oct. 29 at Franklin Park in Boston.
