Cross Country: Men win Rivier Invitational, Clark and Haas top women’s efforts
NASHUA, NH. – Freshman Nate Deer (Kodiak, Alaska) and junior Joe Rosenthal (Pasadena, Md.) keyed a team championship for Norwich University men's cross country Sept. 22.
Deer was second, while Rosenthal took third as part of a 32-point team finish for Coach Nick Cooper's squad at the Rivier College Invitational. Deer's time was 27:02, just six seconds behind individual champion Matt Gonnella of St. Anselm's. Rosenthal crossed in 27:38.
Sophomore Frank Fox (Birdsboro, Pa.) and freshman Zach Brown (Scarborough, Maine) were also in the top 10 for the Maroon and Gold. Fox placed sixth (27:52), and Brown ended eighth (27:54). The four top four individual marks were part of the program's third straight title at the meet.
In the women's meet, sophomores Mallory Clark (Homer City, Pa.) and Samantha Haas (Alexandria, Va.) turned in top-25 finishes. Clark was 12th (20:54), and Haas was 25th (23:06).
The Maroon and Gold continue their 2011 campaign by competing at the Vermont State Collegiate Meet Saturday, Oct. 1. The event is hosted by St. Michael's College and begins at 10 a.m.
