Men’s Tennis: Four Cadets earn GNAC All-Conference honors
BOSTON – The Norwich men's tennis team had four players selected to the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference teams that were announced by the league on Monday.
Senior Collin Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) closed out his record setting four-year career with the Maroon and Gold with his third straight First Team All-Conference honor. He set the all-time Norwich career wins record for singles matches and closed out his career with a sparkling 36-8 record.
This season, Hyte was 9-2 in singles matches with his only two losses coming to Emerson sophomore Kevin Blisniuk. The last three seasons he has played No. 1 singles in every match and compiled a 28-4 record. He was named the GNAC Player of the Year as a sophomore and has been the team Most Valuable Player in each of the last three seasons.
Sophomore Christian Hoskey (Saint Charles, Ill.), freshman Ryan Grindle (Essex Junction, Vt.) and senior Zach Reichelt (Manchester, Conn.) rounded out the Norwich selections with all three earning All-Conference Second Team honors.
Hoskey was named all-conference for the second straight season after compiling an 8-3 record at second singles for the Cadets. He is 17-4 so far through two seasons in the Maroon and Gold.
Grindle and Reichelt combined at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots this season to give the Cadets unprecedented depth in the six-year era of Kyle Dezotell as the head coach. Grindle also posted an 8-3 record at third singles and Reichelt was 7-2 at fourth singles.
Sophomore Joseph Dvorak (De Soto, Kan.) was Norwich's representative on the sportsmanship team.
Norwich finished the year with a 7-4 overall record and a 3-2 mark in GNAC play. The Cadets earned the No. 3 seed for the GNAC Tournament and lost 9-0 to Emerson in the semifinals last Thursday.
