Men’s Tennis: Hoskey, Hyte Sweep GNAC Weekly Awards

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich men's tennis team swept its two matches last week and on Monday night, two Cadets were rewarded by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference as the Player and Rookie of the Week.

Junior Collin Hyte (Player of the Week) and freshman Christian Hoskey (Rookie of the Week) each swept both of their matches at first singles and second singles respectively to help lead the Cadets to a 8-1 non-league win over Lyndon State, as well as a 6-3 win over Johnson & Wales.

Hyte (Marblehead, Mass.) beat Lyndon's Michael Howard 6-3, 6-2 and Johnson & Wales' Jesse Wils 6-0, 6-1 to improve to 7-1 on the season in singles matches.  He also teamed with Luis Galvez and Hoskey to win a pair of doubles matches and complete a perfect 4-0 week.

Hoskey (Saint Charles, Ill.) didn't lose a game at second singles all week as the freshman rolled past Lyndon's Tyler Schofield and JWU's Todd Zimmerman to improve to 6-1 on the season in singles matches. Hoskey also teamed up with Joseph Dvorak to defeat Lyndon's Jeremiah Powell and Paul Thibault on Wednesday.

This is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Hoskey this season. He also won the award for the week ending April 3.

The Cadets (4-4, 1-2 GNAC) have won two matches in a row and four of their last five as they head into the final week of the regular season. NU takes on Lyndon State Wednesday in its final non-conference match before closing out the season at home against Albertus Magnus on Saturday at Shapiro Fieldhouse at 1 p.m.
