Men's Tennis: Three Cadets Earn GNAC Honors
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team placed three of its members on the all-league team, it was announced by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference last weekend.
Senior standout Peter Hooper led the trio of Cadets, as the team's No. 1 singles player was named the conference's "Player of the Year" for the second straight season. He was also tabbed a first-team all-league pick for the second consecutive year. The Spartanburg, S.C., native was impressive all season long en route to establishing a 7-2 mark at No. 1 singles. Hooper also led the Cadets at No.1 doubles finishing with a 7-3 record.
Collin Hyte was named to the second-team all-league. The freshman from Marblehead, Mass., established himself as Norwich's No. 2 singles player. In his first season, he posted a 7-4 singles record going 5-4 at the No. 2 spot and 2-0 at No. 1.
Freshman Bobby Whitbeck represented Norwich on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Whitbeck, a native of Quakertown, Pa., played several different singles positions finishing with a 1-3 record and posting a 3-1 doubles record.
Norwich (5-6, 2-2 GNAC) will wrap up its 2009 season on Tuesday, April 28, when the Cadets travel to Johnson, Vt., to take on in-state rival Johnson State College.
