Tennis: Suffolk Defeats Norwich, 7-2
NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University tennis team saw its four-match win streak come to an end on Saturday, as the Cadets dropped a 7-2 decision to GNAC rival Suffolk at Shapiro Field House.
The Cadets (6-3, 1-2 GNAC) were led by Peter Hooper, who remained unbeaten in singles play, with a 6-0, 6-0 over Pedro Soares at No. 1 singles. Hooper is now 9-0 at first singles this spring.
"Peter Hooper played maybe his best singles match of the season today," said NU head coach Kyle Dezotell. "The score is not indicative of the type of player he competed against today. Soares is one of the top three players in the GNAC, and that score shows just how well he played today."
Hooper teamed up with Travis Tyler to defeat Soares and Chris Delisi, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Hooper is now 8-1 at first doubles this spring.
Suffolk (5-4, 2-1 GNAC) captured the remaining five singles matches, and the other two doubles matches to secure the overall team victory.
"Suffolk is a very good team No. 1 through No. 8," said Dezotell.
Norwich returns to the courts at Shapiro Field House on Sunday, April 20, when the Cadets host GNAC foe Emerson at 1 p.m. Conference tournament implications will be on the line when the Cadets and Lions meet up.
