BOSTON—The Norwich University men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-1 decision to the Saints of Emmanuel College on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
With the loss, the Cadets fall to 3-9 overall and 3-3 in league action, while the win boosts the Saints to 8-3 overall and a league-best 7-0 in GNAC play.
Norwich senior Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) netted the first goal of the game just 1:58 into the first quarter, but the Saints' defense would silence the Norwich offense for the remainder of the game. Classmate Zachary McMillan (Brunswick, Maine) assisted on the goal.
The Saints scored their first tally on a goal by Ryan Sabuda with 9:56 on the clock in the first quarter.
Emmanuel's go-ahead goal game at 11:03 of the second quarter as Chris Curtis scored, assisted by Jake Jaskolski. Following goals by Michael Rogers and Donnie Litzelman with under three-and-a-half minutes to play, the Saints took a 4-1 lead into halftime.
Litzelman and Tony Cibelli tallied third-quarter goals for the Saints, and Kaile MacLean-Daley scored with 3:21 left to play in the fourth quarter.
Norwich goaltender Mark Paradiso (Westford, Mass.) totaled 13 saves in the loss, while Emmanuel's Austin Lauzier stopped nine shots in the win.
Jake Pickett recorded a game-high seven face-off wins for the Saints, while Cibelli and Chris Baglivi both totaled a game-high five ground balls. Andrew Beechinor (Andover, Mass.) and Paradiso both picked up three ground balls for Norwich.
The Cadets return to action on Saturday, when they host Mount Ida College in a 1:00 p.m. GNAC matchup. Norwich will recognize the 2014 seniors in a brief ceremony prior to the opening face-off.
