Box Score

BOSTON - Emerson College had four players reach double figures as the Lions roared to their seventh straight win with a 76-62 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Norwich University at Emerson's Brown & Plofker Gym.

Emerson (10-5, 7-1 GNAC), which leads the conference in scoring defense held Norwich to 21 first half points. The Lions held a 16-5 lead just over five minutes into the contest off a Tom Messinger three-pointer. It was the second of three triples that Messinger would drop in the half. Norwich cut the lead to nine points on three different occasions, the final time at 26-17 on a free throwy by junior G/F Jaren Jeffcoat.

Messinger answered with his third three-pointer of the half and Alex Dempsey connected on two free throws to give Emerson a 31-17 lead with 2:43 remaining in the stanza. Junior G Cori Boston knocked down a three of his own to shrink the margin to 11 and a layup by sophomore F Antonio Davis brought Norwich to within 31-21 with 40 second left. A Chris Briody layup with 13 ticks remaining closed the first half scoring with Emerson holding a 33-21 lead.

Norwich again pulled to within nine points at the 15:16 mark of the second half on a layup by Davis. A Dempsey layup 18 seconds later sparked a 20-3 Lion run that put the game out of reach.

The Lions had only eight turnovers in the contest and forced 16 from the Cadets.

Bryan Rouse led all scorers with 22 points for the Lions. Messinger had 15 on 5-of-8 three-point shooting. Dempsey added 13. Jeremy Shannon had 12 points, nine assists, three steals, and tied Rouse and Kabir Moss for a team high seven rebounds.

Davis was the top scorer for Norwich with 15. Freshman G Ryan Williams added 11 points for the Cadets, who fall to 9-6 (4-4 GNAC).

Norwich returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 26, when the Cadets host GNAC rival Emmanuel College at Andrews Hall. Tip off for the conference contest is slated for 7 p.m.
