Bill Russell starts his fifth season as a member of the Norwich University football staff in 2012. He serves as the Cadets’ special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach.

In 2010 Russell oversaw a special teams unit that ranked first in the nation in kickoff return defense, giving up only 11.91 yards per return. The Cadets also ranked first in the country in that catergory in 2009.

Prior to arriving at Norwich, Russell served a four-year term as a member of the coaching staff at Mount Ida.

Russell, who graduated from Mount Ida in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Child Development, served as linebackers coach for the Mustangs from 2005-08. He took on the role of recruiting coordinator, and was elevated to interim head coach for 2008 spring practice before transitioning to Norwich that summer.

Russell played four years of college football at Mount Ida. He served as team captain during his senior season of 2004.

Russell and his wife Deanna reside in Northfield with Hudson (7), Lydia (5), and baby daughter Darby. The family also has two dogs, Tebow and Keisha. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing and watching Boston Red Sox baseball. He is also an avid Florida Gators fan.
