Football - Ding chosen for Players' All-Star Classic

NORTHFIELD, VT. – Norwich University senior Long Ding (Qing Dao, China) is on the South team for the Players' All-Star Classic football game Saturday, Feb. 4. Kickoff is 4 p.m. inside War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Ding, who is appearing in his second all-star contest after playing in the Division III Senior Football Classic this past December, is one of six NCAA Division III players on the two rosters.

He adds this honor to an already-impressive list following a senior campaign in which he helped lead the Cadets to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference title and the program's first-ever playoff berth. Ding was tabbed a D3football.com third team All-American. The two-time Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Special Teams' Player of the Year also gained all-New England Football Writers Association and D3football.com all-region accolades along with the October Fred Mitchell Award recognition.

He concluded his Cadets' career by successfully converting 11 consecutive field goals and 14 extra points in a row.  Ding ended the 2011 season as the Maroon and Gold's leading scorer (73 points) and was the ECFC leader in made field goals and FG and extra point accuracy as well as ranking in the top 20 of Division III in field goals per game. Ding, in only two seasons at NU, ranked in the top three in career points, field goals and extra points and was one of three Cadets' place-kickers to hit three field goals in one game.
