Football: Alfred Defeats Norwich, 42-0
ALFRED, N.Y. - Tom Secky threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns, and Morgan O'Brien rushed for 129 yards and two scores to lead Alfred over Norwich, 42-0, in an Empire 8 football game Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field.
Alfred improves to 4-1 (2-0 Empire 8), while Norwich slips to 2-3 (0-1 Empire 8).
The Saxons scored two first quarter touchdowns, and added another score in the second stanza to take a 21-0 halftime lead. AU scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, before tacking on one more in the fourth.
Norwich was led offensively by junior QB Chris Gilding, who completed 12-of-23 passes for 103 yards. Gilding also led Norwich on the ground, rushing for a team-high 30 yards on 10 carries. Freshman WR Adrian Dantzler led the Cadets' receiving corps with four receptions for 23 yards.
Defensively, Norwich was led by junior DB Donovan Brown, who made a game-high 11 tackles. Senior LB Jim Kiritsy made eight stops, including one behind the line of scrimmage.
Norwich returns home next Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Cadets host Empire 8 rival Ithaca at Sabine Field. Kickoff for the Parents' Weekend contest is slated for 1:30 p.m.
